The Israeli occupation affects
the daily lives of Palestinians, especially for
women. The deterioration of the economic, social
and health conditions in Palestine is directly linked
with violence inside the home. The militarization
of space and restrictions imposed upon women is
causing a growing crisis in violence against women.
Dr. Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, university Professor
and author of the recent book Militarization
and Violence Against Women in Conflict Zones in
the Middle East, speaks about the ordeals of
Palestinian women under occupation. The AIC also
speaks with Saida Atrash Director of Mehwar Center,
the only shelter for women in the West Bank of Palestine.

and while politicians fret over terms like "slow-down"
or "restraint" on illegal settlement activities,
the Israeli authorities demolished more homes

people in Jerusalem. One room that is part of
a demolished building housed a handicapped women
whom neighbors and friends had helped get modifications
done to facilitate her life.Tonight we heard a rather depressing
report from an organizer in
AlBustan Neighborhood
in Silwan (Occupied
Jerusalem) where 88 homes (housing 1500 people,
60% of them children) are slated for demolition
to create a "King David park".In a normal city, parks are created to
serve the residents of the area not to ethnically
cleanse them.While
just nearby there are spaces for parks to build
but Israel's plan for Jerusalem call for cleansing
it of its Arab inhabitants so that there is
nothing left to negotiate about and it becomes
a Jewish city (capital of Israel forever). The
political plan for judaicizing
this area is actually laid out in the "Jerusalem
2020" plan. After building two rings of settlements
around Jerusalem (and now to be connected with
light railways that make a network of "facts
on the ground"), the plans for this closest
ring of settlements, parks, synagogues, and
museums is yet the most destructive to the local
inhabitants.That Israel
is violating International law (Geneva Conventions
and UN Security Council resolutions) seems to
be only met with muffled protests from the International
community. We are told of a seven year old boy
whose mother notices bulging backpack going
to school and back, when opened, the bag contained
his toys.When asked
about it it turns
out that the child had overheard his parents
talking about the demolition order on their
home and he wanted to make sure that if he comes
back from school and finds his home demolished,
his most valuable toys would be saved.My heart breaks for these families.But I feel sad for the Zionist "believers"
who are generating so much pain in a new generation
of children suffering under this brutal colonizing
state.How is reconciliation
to be achieved when 7 million people were made
refugees or displaced people so far (and more
on the way).Doesn't
International law support resistance to colonization?
And is this resistance just the responsibility
of the victims or also of all decent, thinking
human beings regardless of their religion.

news, a Jewish American terrorist settler, Jack
(aka Yaakov) Teitel
who had been on a killing and destruction rampage
against Palestinians for over 12 years (he had
killed Isa Mahrama
in 1997 and was released without any prison
term) was arrested now by Israeli police because
he is alleged to have planned to target leftist
and gay Jews! Palestinian life and property
continues to be cheap in this unholy Land.
BTW, the Bethlehem University student I told
you about in a previous action alert was handcuffed,
blindfolded and transported to Gaza just two
months before she was scheduled to finish her
degree. Yet, another way Israel makes, per Hillary
Clinton, "unprecedented" steps for
"peace".

controversial Israeli films are provoking outrage and
plaudits in equal measure at the London Film Festival.
The best documentary award has gone to one of the year's
most controversial films. Defamation is a
polemic by Israeli filmmaker Yoav Shamir. In his expose of
America's Anti-Defamation League (ADL), he claims
anti-Semitism is being exaggerated for political purposes.
He argues that American Jewish leaders travel around the
world exploiting the memory of the Holocaust to silence
criticism of Israel. He gets inside the
ADL, which claims to be the most powerful lobby group of its
type anywhere in the world. With unprecedented access, he
travels with them as they meet foreign leaders, and use the
memory of the Holocaust to further their pro-Israeli agenda.
At one point, an ADL leader admits to Shamir that "we need
to play on that guilt". Shamir says his
film, Defamation, started out as a study of "the political
games being played behind the term anti-Semitism". "It became more a
film about perceptions and the way Jews and Israelis choose
to see themselves and define themselves - a lot of the time
unfortunately choosing the role of eternal victims as a way
of life."
Israel's national psyche He wanted to find
out how this mentality has become part of Israel's national
psyche.
The film suggests that the attitude is thrust upon children
from an early age. School trips to concentration camps in
Poland run year-round.
From just 500 children in the 1980s, he claims around 30,000
are now flown to Europe every year.
He discovers that the trips are not designed to educate, but
to provoke an emotional reaction. They fly out of Israel
euphoric, and end their journey in tears, talking about
their shared hatred. They are
accompanied by secret service agents who prevent them from
talking to any locals - they are led to believe that most
Poles are anti-Semites. The end result is
disturbing. The victim mentality is being used to justify
Israel's occupation and colonisation of the West Bank and
siege of Gaza.
In the film, one Israeli Jew tells Shamir that she refuses
to get upset by Israeli aggression against the Palestinians
because "we" faced worse. To her, the Holocaust justifies
anything the Israeli army does. And for Shamir,
that is the real danger. "We are experiencing the most
right-wing government we've ever had, and there is very
little room for discussion. Putting so much focus on hate
and the negative, I don't see it as a healthy thing." In Israel, the film
has received a mixed response. "It's kind of a love or hate
type of response to the film," Shamir says. "It's very hard
to get people to come and watch documentaries in the cinemas
in Israel."
Touchy subject In the UK, too,
there is anger towards Defamation.
Mark Gardiner from one of Britain's biggest anti-Semitism
campaign groups, the Community Security Trust, believes the
film could put Jews at risk. "All of a sudden
some bloke appears out of nowhere, oh he's an Israeli, oh
he's a Jew, therefore what he says must have more credence
than what organisations like my own and the ADL have said
for years - I think that shows a deep-seated bias." And he is furious
at the suggestion that anti-Semitism is being used for
political purposes.
"This assumption that people are saying it because they're
being malicious, because they know that it's not
anti-Semitic, but hey lets use anti-Semitism in order to win
the Israel case, that's what I find really really
offensive," Gardiner says. Shamir is not
surprised by reactions like that.
"Anti-Semitism is a very touchy subject and making a film
about anti-Semitism is almost like walking on thin ice,
you're going to hurt people's feelings." Martial Kurtz from
the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) believes the film
can make a difference to activists like him.
He says all too often Israel's supporters label groups like
the PSC as anti-Semitic.
"There are many Jewish organisations which campaign [with us]
against the occupation, campaign against the siege in Gaza,"
he says. "So the whole argument falls flat."
'Rocking the boat' Defamation is not
the only controversial movie at this year's London Film
Festival.
Eyes Wide Open provoked anger and walkouts when it was
screened.
It is a love story between two Orthodox Jewish men set in
Jerusalem. Despite trying to keep their affair secret, the
pair are threatened with violence by the community's elders,
leading to tragedy. Director Haim
Tabakman knew the film would not be easy for some Jews to
watch. "This film has a provocative pitch," he says. "Every
good film is political." But he just wants
people to face reality. "If you talk about it, it exists, so
it's not in their interests to talk about it," he told Al
Jazeera.
"It's like the flood with Noah and his ark - the water came
to destroy everything but something new came out of it.
Sometimes it's good to shake the boat."
'Victims of war' Another director
causing waves is Samuel Maoz, whose war film Lebanon is
sparking debate inside Israel. "You can't change
anything without first of all talking about it," he says. "The
film moves people to talk, even to argue with each other." Maoz's film, which
won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival in September,
is based on his own experiences as his army invaded Lebanon
in 1982. He says he made the film because of the guilt which
still haunts him to this day. "I'm not comparing
between the suffering of a Lebanese woman who lost her
family to the suffering of a soldier who fell into a no way
out situation and needs to kill. If I can make some kind of
scale, she is in level 10 and he is in the bottom, he is in
level two. But both of them are victims of war." He knows words like
that will cause controversy in Israel, but he is ready for
the backlash.
"The army is not something holy, especially after the 2006
Lebanon war. In war itself there are no good guys and bad
guys. The war is the bad guy."
Maoz believes that Israel will only become less belligerent
when civilians are shown the realities of war.
"First of all it was a need to unload and expose the war as
it is, naked, without all the heroic stuff and the rest of
the cliches." But Maoz has a
bigger aim - to stop Israel launching attacks on
Palestinians and Lebanese.
"Every film has its ambition to change something ... the
film is attacking war itself," he says.
"Peace will come but it's just a question of time and time
is blood. If we can find a short cut we can save a lot of
blood for both sides."

appellieren an Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel die
israelische Forderung nach zwei deutschen Kriegsschiffen
unverzüglich abzulehnen. "Diese Anfrage verträgt
sich nicht mit dem im schwarz-gelben Koalitionsvertrag
vereinbarten Eintreten für Frieden, Stabilität und
demokratischer Entwicklung im Nahen und Mittleren
Osten", so Matthias Jochheim, stellvertretender
Vorsitzender der IPPNW. Die von Schwarz-Gelb befürwortete
Konferenz im Nahen Osten nach dem Vorbild des KSZE-Prozesses
mit den regional beteiligten Konfliktparteien, den
USA, EU, Russland und den Vereinten Nationen werde
so direkt konterkariert. Die Tageszeitung "Maariv"
hatte berichtet, die israelische Marine wolle die
beiden Korvetten der Hamburger Werft Blohm & Voss
unter anderem mit Raketenabwehrsystemen des Typs
"Barak 8" sowie weitreichenden Radaranlagen bestücken,
um so "für künftige Kriege bereit zu sein". Laut
der US-amerikanischen Nachrichtenagentur UPI hat
sich die israelische Regierung zudem mit der Bitte
um Mitfinanzierung eines sechsten U-Boots an die
Bundesregierung gewandt. Bereits im Juli hatte die
IPPNW Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel in einem Offenen
Brief aufgefordert, die von Israel bestellten zwei
weiteren atomwaffenfähigen U-Boote der Dolphin-Klasse
nicht auszuliefern. Auch pax christi forderte alle
Lieferungen deutscher Waffen und Rüstungsgüter nach
Nahost unverzüglich zu stoppen. Auslieferungstermin
für die beiden U-Boote ist voraussichtlich das Jahr
2012. Die Kosten betragen 500 Millionen Euro, ein
Drittel davon soll die Bundesregierung tragen. Die
IPPNW und pax christi setzen sich für eine "Konferenz
für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit im Mittleren und
Nahen Osten" (KSZMNO) ein. Eine zivilgesellschaftliche
Modellkonferenz im Mittleren und Nahen Osten mit
Experten aus Wissenschaft, Politik, Industrie und
Kultur aus der Region soll die Idee der Kooperation
und gemeinsamen Sicherheit mit Leben füllen. Einziger
Grundsatz für das Zusammenkommen ist die Bereitschaft
zum Dialog ohne Vorbedingungen. Dafür setzen sich
unter anderem ein: Norbert Blüm, Abdallah Frangi,
Prof. Johan Galtung, Prof. Ulrich Gottstein, Rupert
Neudeck, Rafik Schami, Hans-Christoph von Sponeck

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren ich wende mich an
Sie mit der Bitte eine rasche adäquate Hilfe in
dieser Angelegenheit zu unternehmen. Der Sachverhalt
ist folgendes: Mehrere Helfer aus Europa haben Aktionen
für die Kinder im Gaza-Streifen ermöglicht.
Die Reise erfolgte vom Hamburger-Hafen nach Bur
Said (Ägypten). Diese Fahrt wurde vorab mit der
zuständigen Ägyptischen Behörde besprochen und bewilligt.
Die Gruppe von ca. 100 Helfern aus Europa, darunter
10 deutsche Mitbürger und Mitbürgerinnen, sind am
12.10.09 in Ägypten bzw. in Bur Said eingetroffen.
Sie wollten ihre Reise mit den Hilfsgütern nach
Gaza fortsetzen. Mit großer Verwunderung hörten
die Helfer von den Beamten, dass sie ihre Reise
Richtung Al Arish ändern müssen und das Innenministerium
von Ägypten weitere Entscheidungen bezüglich der
Reise treffen muss.
Wie ich von den dortigen Helfern erfahren habe,
ist die Fahrt von Bur Said nach Al Arish aus technischen
Gründen nicht durchführbar, weil bestimmte Schiffe
mit bestimmten Merkmalen vorhanden sein müssen.
Des Weiteren sind die Kosten zu hoch, die sie nicht
leisten können.
Außerdem ist der Abstand von Bur Said nach Al Arish
nicht so groß, dass es von Nöten wäre die Ladung
nach Al Arish umzulagern. Vor allem sind viele medizinische
Gegenstände wie (Dialysemittel, Prothesen, Rollstühle
für Amputierte und Transporte für Kinder) mit aufgeladen
und wenn sie zu lange gelagert werden, werden ihre
Zwecke nicht mehr erfüllt.
Ich finde das Verhalten der Ägyptischen Behörden
ein Akt das nicht mehr toleriert werden kann. Unsere
Deutschen Bürger und Mitbürger wird untersagt sich
frei zu bewegen und ihr Hab und Gut dürfen sie nicht
mitnehmen. Für mich ist das eine Geiselnahme, Freiheitsberaubung
der Menschenrechte und Entwendung der Hilfsgüter.
Ich appelliere an die Bundesregierung Deutschland.
Entsprechende
Schritte zu unternehmen das der Transport der
Güter nach Gaza weiter fortgeführt wird.
Das alle unsere
deutschen Mitbürger und Mitbürgerinnen auf freien
Fuß und unversehrt in ihre Heimat zurückgelangen,
nachdem sie ihre Aufgabe erfüllt haben.
Die versprochenen
zwei deutschen U-Boote modernster Art an dem
Staat Israelnicht mehr abzuliefern.
Die Blockade
von Gaza mit dieser Massenhaften Menschenrechtsverletzung
und Hungersnot bald möglich zu beenden.
In der Hoffnung, dass sich die Situation so schnell
wie möglich zum Positivem verändert, damit die Kinder
in Gaza wieder ein Lächeln im Gesicht haben. Damit

Universität, Campus Westend,
Casino, Raum 823, Grüneburgplatz
1, das Buch „Hitler besiegen“
von Avraham Burg vom Campus
Verlag vorgestellt.
Im Anschluss daran findet eine
Diskussion zwischen Professor
Micha Brumlik und Avraham Burg
statt. Vorab hat die Zeitschrift
Semit
ein Interview mit dem Autor
veröffentlicht, das der
Journalist Dr. Ludwig Watzal
geführt hat.

Die Umstände
erklärt die folgende Mail des Veranstalters:
Liebe MitstreiterInnen, das
Befürchtete aber nicht Erhoffte ist
eingetreten: Heute morgen wurde mir
von ganz offizieller STADTSEITE
mitgeteilt, dass unsere
Veranstaltungsreihe zu Ilan Pappe
nicht in den städtischen Räumen des
Päd.Institutes stattfinden können
und verlegt werden müssten. Es gab
keinerlei inhaltliche Begründung.
Wir
sind entschieden der Meinung, dass
jetzt drei Dinge passieren müssen:
Die
Veranstaltungen dürfen nicht
abgesagt werden.
Es muss eine wie
auch immer geartete Pressekampagne
geführt werden, um die
Öffentlichkeit von diesem
ungeheuerlichen Vorgang zu info
rmieren.
Es
muss eine Protestbriefkampagne
Richtung Stadtspitze geführt werden,
damit verstanden wird, dass wir
nicht bereit sind, in dieser Form
unser Grundrecht auf
Meinungsfreiheit beschneiden zu
lassen. Es muss auch in unserer
Stadt möglich sein, die anerkannten
Stimmen des anderen Israels zu Gehör
zu bringen.

Veranstaltungen zu verlegen:

the Gaza Freedom March. Any other version is not
authorized or correct. Israel’s blockade of Gaza
is a flagrant violation of international law
that has led to mass suffering. The U.S., the
European Union, and the rest of the
international community are complicit. The law
is clear. The conscience of humankind is shocked.
Yet, the siege of Gaza continues. It is time for
us to take action! On Dec. 31, we will end the
year by marching alongside the Palestinian
people of Gaza in a non-violent demonstration
that breaches the illegal blockade. Our
purpose in this March is lifting the siege on
Gaza. We demand that Israel end the blockade. We
also call upon Egypt to open Gaza’s Rafah border.
Palestinians must have freedom to travel for
study, work, and much-needed medical treatment
and to receive visitors from abroad. As an
international coalition we are not in a position
to advocate a specific political solution to
this conflict. Yet our faith in our common
humanity leads us to call on all parties to
respect and uphold international law and
fundamental human rights to bring an end to the
Israeli military occupation of Palestinian
territories since 1967 and pursue a just and
lasting peace. The march can only succeed if it

Israels Ministerpräsident Netanyahu hat vor
der UNO eine Rede gehalten die man nur dümmlich
finden kann. Nichts von Emanzipation und falls
doch dann nur aufgrund der Atombomben, die Israel
massenhaft besitzt, aber so tut als es es das
Opfer, obwohl es Der Täter im nahen Osten ist.
Selbst der Israel wohlgesonne Roger Cohen von
der New York Times konnte über diese Obsessionen
nur den Kopf schütteln. Die von Dr. Ludwig Watzal
besprochenen Bücher bestätigen ihn nur darin
und zeigen, wie diese rechte zionistische Regierung
